Although African Americans make up just 13 percent of the U.S. population, we account for 33 percent of the missing in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s database. Cases involving African Americans also tend to receive less media coverage than missing Whites, with missing men of color getting even less attention.
NewsOne has partnered with the Black and Missing Foundation to focus on the crisis of missing African Americans.
To be a part of the solution, NewsOne will profile a missing person weekly and provide tips about how to keep your loved ones safe and what to do if someone goes missing.

Location Last Seen: Moore was last seen as he left his mother’s house to meet friends at a Pizza Hut less than a mile away. Moore never made it.
“He never showed up and no one has heard from him since then,” Lt. Scott Wilson of the Gautier Police Department told Gulf Live.com
Delaina Moore, Desmond’s mother, said it’s unusual for her son to disappear without making contact.
“I just want to bring my son home,” she told the website. “Drop him off at the hospital or whatever. Just bring him home.”
Family and friends of Moore gathered in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut Saturday to hold a candle light vigil. They were perplexed about what could have happened to the young man.
“When he says he’s coming back, he’s coming back, and I just didn’t know none of this was going to happen,” said Martonia Jackson, Moore’s girlfriend, who was at the home Moore left before vanishing.
Police say there have been leads but none of them have panned out. Numerous agencies, such as the FBI, are assisting with the case.
“We are much more concerned now that it’s been this long. We still believe he’s alive,” Capt. Jerry Cooksey told the website. “We’ve been getting so many different stories. We just don’t know. We haven’t given up hope.”
Moore’s family also believes he’s still alive and his mother said she will work until he is found.
“I’m letting him (Desmond) know I’m not giving up. I’m not giving up until I bring him home,” said Delaina Moore.
Circumstances of Disappearance: Unknown.
Last Seen Wearing: Black basketball shorts with a white stripe and a white T-shirt when he left home.
Identifying Marks or Characteristics: Has dreadlocks.
