A Brawley teen has been missing since Monday, and her family as well as authorities are requesting that anyone with information contact police.
Melany Gomez, 15, was last seen at Brawley Union High School on Monday and was reportedly seen getting into a black vehicle at lunch time, her mother said.
Gomez didn't take identification or her cell phone with her, and her family said nothing like this has happened before.
A missing persons report was filed Monday with the Brawley Police Department, and there's "no independent information to believe that there's any crime that's taken place" or that she's in any immediate danger, said Cmdr. Brett Houser.
He also clarified that there's nothing at this time to indicate that this is a kidnapping situation.
Gomez just celebrated her quinceañera a week ago and doesn't have any behavioral or academic issues, her uncle Peter Contreras said.
Family initially thought she may have left with a boy but aren't sure what to think now.
"If somebody really, really knows about it, let us know she's okay because we've been hearing a lot of comments. We just want to know if she's okay," Contreras said.
Her mother, also named Melany Gomez, said in Spanish that the family just wants to know that she's okay and to come home. She added that if there's something upsetting Melany, that her family will help her in any way that they can.
